Customs Manager

Position Summary:

The Customs Compliance Manager Oversees a staff of import administrators who are responsible for the classification, and filing of US Customs Entries for imported goods. Ensuring all processes are followed to maintain Compliance with all Regulations required by Government Laws.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees multiple team members that prepare documents for processing information for imported shipments to US Customs and Border Protection on an Automated Broker Interface, (ABI system); maintaining timely and accurate Customs entries.
  • Maintain continuous training to keep current with changing trade compliance policies. This may include attending seminars and conferences.
  • Analyze Customs broker KPI's and ACE import data to support and enable corporate goals of on-time Customs clearance and trade compliance metrics.
  • Oversee entry auditing and reporting results and recommendations for improvement.
  • Responsible for determining Customs classifications and regulatory requirements (licenses, certificates, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Merchandising Supply Chain to ensure accuracy of master data elements and compliance information is maintained.
  • Maintain and keep current all Customs documentation.
  • Interface with clients, coworkers, and supervisors, to provide updates and resolve queries around the customs clearance process.
  • Create a climate of openness, trust and respect for each Associate.
  • Plan, monitor, appraise, and manage performance results.
  • Initiate, lead and participate in special ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Manage positive resolution between our customs import broker(s) and U.S. Customs taking control of situations that negatively impact the distribution of imported merchandise.

Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree preferred, or minimum 5-7yrs equivalent work experience in customs brokerage department.
  • 3+yrs management or supervisory skills.
  • In depth knowledge of trade compliance regulations.
  • Strong proficiency in HTS classification and CBP regulations.
  • Customs Brokers license is a plus, not required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Demonstrate the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Knowledge of ACE system; incremental experience with Decartes (ABI) is a plus.
  • Adept with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
